Just had to add this tidbit. My friend swears by a product called "Spot Shot" (at least, I think it's called that). She's gotten fingernail polish out of carpet with it. BUT, it's pretty powerful stuff, so I've never used it, as I didn't want it in my house accessable to little ones. But, if the sharpies find the carpet in my house, I'll probably break down and go get it to try it. Here's a link to the epinions website about the stuff: http://www.epinions.com/pr-Housewares-Heartland_14_Ounce_Spot_Shot_Stain_Remover_Spray/display_~reviews

Got most of it up (it's still there but faint). We tried (in order) - dishwashing detergent, a little bit of acetone (fingernail polish remover), carpet cleaner with oxy clean (scotchgard brand), hairspray and finally, rubbing alcohol. I think the carpet cleaner and rubbing alcohol worked the best. Wetting then blotting up the stain (with a dry cloth) worked better than scrubbing it out. If all else fails you can cut some of the fibers down. Here's a link w/ some tips for the alcohol. http://www.creativehomemaking.com/cleaning/permanent-marker-stains.shtml

I read that WD 40 would take off permanent marker ... however, it may melt the carpet, so try it knowing that's the risk. Glad that W is doing alright. Love the idea about the cornmeal though!

Did you get it off? I have a spot where someone (gee, I wonder who?) used a Sharpie on the carpet. I bought one of those Eraser things to try and have no other ideas. You?

So glad to hear W's surgery went well. I've been praying and checking for an update.

The oil spill - ugh. Gotta love those toddlers. :-) Permanent marker on carpet was our latest incident.

Has R seen too much My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Windex is the cure all, ya know. The oil - was it worse or better than the cocoa incident? You're life is SO not boring. :) Glad to hear you're of good spirits.
