Conscious Living....Deliberate Living. Deciding what I want to strive for and then setting goals to get there... "But the dreamers of the day are dangerous people because they think their dreams into reality with eyes wide open."

We prefer the plug in ones too, although I can see it's drawbacks now that I think about it. We have ours in the basement by the furnace- it's the only thing in our house that is run by a fuel so we only have one. Our stove and hot water are electric.

You know...we have a detector! I wonder now why it never went off. It's a plug in and our power wasn't off. We need one downstairs though. Thanks for the tip!

If it helps ease the panic Erin's had some adjusting to do with gas. I still remember during Ivan, when we had no power, she tried to light to stove to make lunch. Well, our stove is an electric ignition so, of course, it won't light on its own without power. She had a mini-panic and wondered how we would cook. I simply walked over, pulled out the lighter and manually lit the burner. In her cute way she went "oh..."

Something that you might want to invest in, now that you're on gas, is a carbon monoxide detector. They can be lifesavers if something ever goes wrong because, odds are, you will not find out otherwise before it's too late. Oddly enough, I would avoid First Alert (too sensative) and go with Kidde. Get a battery powered model and put one on each floor of your house (CO1 is lighter than air)
