Twas the week before christmas….

paint stockings, bake cookies, spend a day with oldest son and Algebra.

change diapers, bake cookies, read to little son about penguins.

wrap presents, bake cookies, teach daughter to dip stuff in chocolate.

start terrace steps into the big hill, bake cookies, watch movies with children.

wipe sniffle-y noses, bake cookies, keep the fire in the woodstove going.

open cards, bake cookies, answer emails.

It’s cozy and grey here….we await visiting grandparents and sit evenings with popcorn and board games. What are you up to the week before christmas?

I’m on the phone with dh, who is stuck in Denver. I’m baking Apple Cake, Sausage Balls and Cherry Crunch. I’m watching movies with the kids and reading good books. I’m keeping the fire roaring when it’s cold enough, which isn’t until late evening though we are suppossed to have a chilly Christmas, maybe even snow flurries!
Sounds like you and yours are snug as a bug in a rug.

    Merry Christmas, Tia!

Working, resting, cleaning, resting, waiting for baby.
Cooking, resting, sewing gown for baby, resting, waiting for baby.
Resting, cleaning, resting, waiting for baby.
Resting, resting, resting, waiting for baby. :)

Unpacking, missing you, sorting, tossing, cleaning, unpacking, setting up, hooking up computers…printers…sewing machines, loading shelves, missing you, waiting for Ruthie,

Think I’ll take a break and go to the grocery store…out of coffee. Jaasper has a bad cold…any advice? Gooey eye and lots of hard sneezes. Poor baby.

    Stay warm and dry.

I once treated a cat’s conjunctivitis quite sucessfully with breast milk…. ;-). If it’s just a sinus cold, probably just wipe his eye with warm water and make sure he’s drinking. Bet he’s fine in a few days. Red Fox had a cold this week too.

baking biscotti, making candy, shopping with dh, listening to Christmas music, watching Christmas movies, wrapping gifts, delivering gifts, mailing a very few Christmas cards and trying to keep us all focused on the most meaningful aspect of the season! Hope your Christmas is precious and magical!

sad, depressed, overspent, ignored most of the snowball, feel like a failure and need to get back on the wagon, contemplating returns but live with a dh who uses Christmas as a gauge of how well he is taking care of his family, and counseling this week was about how as a young parent I might have unknowingly (and still) be experiencing the loss of what could have been if I had waited to have kids… (now, why did I go to counseling this week? Couldn’t it have waited?), add in squishy TD feelings, call about testing son for learning disabilities (expected but not happy about), kids who I promised I’d take to the mall tonight because they want to shop for each other even though the mall is the last place I want to be…

In between, we fit in making our own Christmas cards, making gifts, etc. and that was fun but today is not one of those days.

Wondering what to do with (so that *I* don’t eat them all) the abundance of Christmas cookies, Godiva chocolates, cheese popcorn, home-made candies, more cookies, and applesauce cake that were gifted to us or that I made…OH!! I know!! I’ve got KIDS and my DAD!

Hey Dali….sounds like the incarnation and all the hope and new life that it brings might be just the thing you need. And that new year, with all it’s new chances and fresh days is just ahead too. You don’t have to spend another day living in the land of “what might have been”, that place that gives little in return depsite the time we spend there. Love you!!

Sarah, what they don’t eat, put in the freezer and use it for party food. Your parties are always fabu. Only, I typed that and now I’m wondering what frozen popcorn would be like….

    phew…

for me, the “week before Christmas” started tonight. While school’s been officially out since last Thursday (i.e., finals were over), there is still much to do in the lab, with the grad students, catching up on paperwork and planning for next semseter. But tonight I give myself fully over to the family and the season. (ok - almost fully - I’ll still be checking my e-mail and working on a few things off and on) Man, am I glad it’s here. And then there are all those cookies and chocolates and cakes to devour… ;-)

dalimama - different circumstances, very similar feelings! Thanks for sharing, as it helps to not feel all alone when one is struggling with emotions, feelings, etc. I’ve been clinging to the truth of God’s faithfulness, and while I’ve not been delivered from my problems, I know that one day I will look back and be able to see God’s hand in this, that He is helping me through. But I sure don’t FEEL it.

Let’s see, my list for today, loads of laundry, house cleaning, need to bake cookies (that I actually mixed up for a cookie exchange, and then didn’t get baked, so I hope to be delivering those later today). Haven’t done Christmas cards in about 4 years, and I’m not feeling bad about that. Hmmm, guess we still have some gift-wrapping left (all of it). And those other humans in my house will probably want to consume food at some point today and over the weekend. (What’s up with that?) But we do have a tree up, the decorations are out, and we’ve listened to Christmas CDs more than twice this month.

Anyway, Merry Christmas to all. Enjoy snow if you have it. We’ve got sunshine and 77 degrees. So I guess we need to go to the beach for our snow. =)
