feeling unperceptive..

Wheaton sat down singing the song from Chip And Dale today and said it was bad to have a red nose.
“Huh?” said I.
“Yeah, the bad one has a red nose. The good one has a black one.”
After more conversation I realized I felt a little thick…I never knew one could tell the two chipmunks apart! Wheaton says it’s the noses, David says it’s the teeth, Celia says it’s their attitudes.

In other news, the trees on the hills have leaves again and when the wind blows I can hear it once more. There is some pretty little white flower blooming in the lawn and in the side beds that smells like honeysuckle; it closes in the morning and opens in the afternoon like a 4 o’clock, only it’s petaled a bit more like a daisy. Spring is amazing.

It is lovely to know that somewhere Spring has arrived. Here in Edmonton, Alberta, Winter is still very much here. We had a couple of inches of snow and leaves are only a dream…but I dream. Actually, I like Winter. I’m just ready for Spring now.
This reminds me of one of the first posts I read on your website. You and/or someone else were talking about eating seasonally. I am very interested in this, but find it very difficult here in a temperature zone that has a very short growing season and limited foods that grow well here. I haven’t given up on the idea, but I think it will be a struggle to give up all fresh fruits and veggies for five months of the year. Thanks for making me think and rethink. I am enjoying your posts. I also have four children (all daughters) and am still nursing a 2year old (sometimes happily and sometimes not). If these comments are not in keeping with your site, my apologies. I am really enjoying it and hope to get the gist of it soon.

OH yes! Eating seasonally is challenging but even more so the farther north one is. In your case, eating seasonally probably will include trying to food grown continentally rather than locally, as close to it’s season as possible and include a “frozen and preserved” season when nothing grows but you still gotta eat!
If I were you I’d start by not eating tomatoes in the dead of winter, nothing from South America or Mexico, and no late spring apples. Little changes will reveal others as you go. Thanks for the great comment today! You encouraged me this morning.
