And while I haven’t fallen off many logs yet…making my own buttermilk will definitely happen here! Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the compliment. You’ve got a great blog yourself.
Incidentally, you can do the same thing for sour cream. Just put a tablespoon or so of buttermilk in some cream and let it sit at room temperature for 24-48 hours and you have sour cream.
Once you’ve got your own buttermilk you never have to buy it again.
