Brava…

We did it a year ago for money reasons… she did it for time and money. Cutting the expense of cable, dish, or what-have-you is a great way to inject more time into your day and more money into your budget. It’s one more way to take a step back from the herd and think about what we do and why. I’m always a little stunned when I’m reminded that the “great” people of our time, the really accomplished and success stories almost never watch TV at all, let alone as many stations as cable provides. So here’s to you today Sarah at Ordinary Days…may this one be extraordinary!

That’s funny. We almost never watch TV and up until a week ago didn’t have cable. That was the first time I can remember watching TV in who knows how long.

My wife was told by a consultant that she needed to get cable. She’s the children’s ministry director at our church. The consultant said that in order to be relevant to the kids she needs to know what they are watching on TV.

Funny thing is we can just never seem to find time to get down there and watch it…

Oy!! Brian!! She can do “research” online! Tons of TV is available online for no more cost than your internet connection.

And have been meaning to post about this….my homemade buttermilk, per your suggestion, is sublime!! I’ll never buy the “nasty” version again!! Thanks so much for the tip!

I love your new blog look- the recent color change was nice, but this one looks more like your style. More real and earthy:-)

Thanks! I just am not a “turquoise” person and that design was driving me bananas. This feels much, much better :-)

Oh, cable drives me nuts! It turns out that, owing to circumstances, I have to get cable in order to get an internet connection, so starting on Friday I’ll be paying $13.00 a month for something I don’t even use.

    Sigh.

We’ve been without cable since 1988 when my husband went back to school. We went 4+ years without a TV in the house. At a friend’s house, our 4 year old daughter came to ask me why the movie had stopped (she had never seen a commercial). Now, though, she’s 8 years old and we have a TV with an antennae and about 8 channels and there is more than enough to waste our brains. Slowly over the years, our TV consumption time is going up. But to spend $600+ over a year for cable. No way!

A few posts ago you mentioned making your own laundry soap. Where can I go to find out more about that?

    P.S. I am a brand-new Orthodox catachumen!
