One Thing I Have Learned…
On Making Changes:
Do One Thing. If I take something big and break it down into steps, and then choose ONE thing to do in the direction of the whole, I will have started the journey to the change.

So right! I’m in the middle of packing for a cross country move. It’s so overwhelming because we have accumulated far too much stuff, but I’m doing one thing at a time.As I do that one thing I’m able to sort and declutter and pare down to just what we need. As soon as one thing is done I am free to move on to the next thing. It’s a great way to think when there’s a huge job to tackle, for sure! Your post is timely for me!
Just found you not to long ago…enjoy reading your take on life!

Hi Mariah~ yes…it’s the old, “how do you eat an elephant” question!
My mom taught me to make my bed first when cleaning my room; it always looks better than it is faster! And flylady.com taught me to wash my dishes/shine my sink first.
It’s so much more encouraging to say, “I’m working on such and such goal” or “I’m on my way to such and such destination” rather than a negative, “I’ll never get there!” monster, which has it’s own way to coming true when we say that over and over to ourselves.
Glad to hear you like the blog! Thanks!

I was just posting on my blog the poem “Do the Next Thing.” I find it so helpful when I get overwhelmed by circumstances and obligations to remember this poem. It all starts with the next thing not the thing down the road.
