It’s not Wednesday but I feel like getting back to “5 Thankful Things”

Next week is Thanksgiving, as the world remembers, and as I’ve been kind of ignoring. The holidays sure are going to be different this year. But Thankfulness always applies and I thought a little list would be a good idea today. As ever, if you join in, either leave a comment or your link so I can check ‘em out!

I’m Thankful For:

  • Friends. They are having a profound effect on my life right now.
  • Fall. Where I am now is peak color…. a little bonus because where I was it was all over and winter has set in.
  • Really intense dark chocolate cheesecake
  • Time and space to think. To breathe.
  • Family.

I’m very glad to see this — I’ve been thinking of you this week. Funny, how the internet does that to complete strangers.

I posted my list yesterday, in stolen moments.

    I am so grateful for:

[*]really great books that you just can’t put down.

    [*]Don coming home.

[*]a box full of hand written recipes from family that I pull out this time of year and it floods my mind with memories and makes my mouth water.

[*]4 more weeks of school before my LAST semester starts.

    [*]Don coming home.

[*]Thanksgiving dinners that make me feel lethargic and sleepy while I look at Christmas ads for Black Friday and start planning Christmas lists with my mother; while a large fire burns and I have a sleepy cat in my lap. Puuurfect.

    [*]elastic waistbands

[*]Did I say, Don coming home?

I was searching information about homeschooling, my husband and I are thinkging about the idea and your blog came up.

I saw the quote by T.E. Lawrence you are using,

“But the dreamers of the day are dangerous people because they think their dreams into reality with eyes wide open.”

Did you read Seven Pillars of Wisdom: A Triumph by T.E. Lawrence or just like the quote. If you haven’t read it, I strongly encourage this as a great read.

It is difficult to describe the experience of reading The Seven Pillars. It is by turns beautiful and ugly. It is military history. It is a subjective view provided by a man very much of his time. It is an apology and an excuse for the necessities of war. It is a portrait of a tribe that Lawrence came to respect and even love. It is a travel book about life in the desert at the time of writing. It is inevitably a mix of fact and history and fiction and probably at least a little bit of wishful thinking.

It is, ultimately, a pretty amazing book to read.

    I should mention:

Before you read the book, do some quick background reading on the history that’s involved. This will help avoid confusion.

Be prepared for a long read! It’s not only a long book, it’s an extremely dense book. The choppiness and frequent changes in tone make it hard to put on the reading cruise control.

Read it as a product of its time. Lawrence was a fascinating man, but not without his prejudices or faults.

    1. Forgiveness of my mistakes

2.Capacity to show Mercy to those that hurt me.

    3. New friends, I’ve made a few recently that really helped.

4.The strength NOT to say the things I managed NOT to say, when I should NOT have said them, but I really wanted to.

    5. All gifts both temporal and spiritual.

    6. Living in a land where (at least for now) we are still aloud to give thanks to Our God, from whom we cannot escape our neediness.
