I have to have my mom's candied sweet potatoes. She cooked for some people at church that would be alone this year, so I made them for the first time. Sweet potatoe casserole is something I love too. My mom makes her sweet potatoes sauteed in butter and brown sugar in a frying pan until carmelized and deep brown. I love sausage stuffing too and my mom usually is the only one that makes that too and I made it:0) Not from scratch like hers, but it fit the bill. Mmm. and my mom's homemade rolls. I haven't attempted them though! And Joy makes a cheesy potato casserole that is also a favorite. I love Thanksgiving around here!

Thanksgiving was always the only holiday I really felt like I needed to spend with my family. Anything else made me a little homesick. Then one year I discovered the reason why -- my mom's sausage stuffing. I learned how to make it, so now when my parents do something crazy like go to Mexico for Thanksgiving (like this year) I can have the holiday I need without them. My boyfriend's family loves that stuffing, too, and last night his brother even called to make sure I planned to bring it!

It seems a little crazy to have one food I associate with Thanksgiving, but that's what it is. My family isn't very close, so I like that there is one thing I have acquired from my mother that counts as a tradition.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.

We're baking squash this year instead of mashed potatoes. We're trying to cut down on the cream.
